LES simulation of cavitation inception caused by vortex-vortex interactions

Abstract

We propose to use large-eddy simulation (LES) to study the interaction between two counter-rotating vortices of unequal strength for their influence on cavitation inception. We propose to: (a) continue our ongoing LES of one case of the Ceccio group experiments to examine the effects of wake and boundary layer refinement on our results (b) perform LES at additional conditions under the same conditions as the planned Ceccio group experiments, and (iii) analyse the velocity and pressure fields for their influence on inception. This work will also be aligned with the upcoming NATO AVT-386 effort.Approved for Public Release.
