Multifunction Enabled Access through Networked Sensors (MEANS)

Abstract

This project will develop the devices, components, and systems necessary to demonstrate an integrated sensor network for Naval and Marine expeditionary forces. The project will be a joint research partnership between the University of Delaware (UD) and Delaware State University (DSU). The program explores ad hoc device, system, and network innovations that provide expeditionary forces with enhanced situational awareness in littoral warfare environments, including autonomous sensing and communication in complex, congested, and contested electromagnetic operating environments (EMOE). Accordingly, the project focuses on the development of intelligent distributed RF-photonic wireless sensor systems to achieve and maintain a robust and resilient network, made possible by real-time and distributed collaboration/coordination among a large number of sensing and communication nodes that are enabled by advanced RF-photonic devices and systems.
