Navy Student Fieldwork

Abstract

Three US Navy Master#s of Science students in the WHOI-MIT Joint program will accompany us to the US Army Corps of Engineers Field Research Facility in fall 2023 to learn field techniques as they gather observations of littoral processes for their thesis research. The Navy students will estimate currents in shallow water using optical and infrared cameras mounted on a tower and on drones, will obtain bathymetric and topological surveys with vehicles and a lidar-equipped drone, and will use numerical models to simulate nearshore processes.
