Center for Turbulence Research

Abstract

We propose to establish a postdoctoral training center to apply our leading interdisciplinary computational, experimental and data science programs to problems of naval interest involving multi-physics turbulent flows, aero/hydrodynamics, acoustics, propulsion, geophysical and ocean science, and engineering. An explicit objective is the fusion of models and knowledge base in different communities (that normally do not interact-e.g., geophysics and engineering) to facilitate broad advances, which provides the rationale forseeking CTR as a joint venture of multiple (3) ONR Directorates. The second objective pertains to the training of the next generation of innovators in flow physics, broader access to fluid dynamics research from institutions not traditionally connected with CTR and expanded recruitment pool available to the Navy and OEMs.Approved for Public Release
