Abstract

Ship Operations, Maintenance, Repair, and Upgrade FY2024-2028 ProposalUniversity of Washington - School of OceanographyShip Operations for R/V Thomas G. Thompson and R/V Rachel CarsonThe University of Washington requests funding to support FY2024 Office of Naval Research (ONR) sponsored operations on the Navy owned Research Vessel (R/V) Thomas G. Thompson (AGOR-23) including autonomous and embarked sensors including Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV), Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV), and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) systems. This proposal also includes various additional ONR funding requests for four additional out years (FY2025-2028), currently as placeholders. This proposal can also fund upgrades to extend the useful life of the ONR owned R/V Thomas G. Thompson.Vessel repairs, equipment replacement, and upgrades to either improve capability or comply with new regulatory requirements are included. This request also supports necessary emergency services such as vessel towing or recovery of gear lost at sea and authorized insurance deductibles.In addition, this funding proposal includes Program Manager authorized requests including acquisition of other research vesseloperational time and related services such as science equipment calibration, winch pool, van pool, diving equipment, and other needs typically provided by husbanding services for the safe and effective operation of the vessel and supporting logistics.
