NIUVT: Collaborative Applied Research in the Undersea Vehicle Domain
Abstract
Approved for Public ReleaseA continued investment by the Navy in the National Institute for Undersea Vehicle Technology (NIUVT) is proposed. Previous NIUVT support has developed an ecosystem to advance current and future technologies in the undersea vehicle domain. The NIUVT has demonstrated strong capacity in conducting applied research with persistent government-industry-academia collaboration and a strong purpose to accelerate innovation and technology in submarine and unmanned undersea vehicles. Consistent with the Navy#s strategy, the NIUVT mission is to conduct applied research, closely aligned with government and industry partners, to accelerate the development and transition of enabling technologies to advance and streamline the design and manufacturing of the next-generation U.S. undersea fleet. The requested funding will address the urgency and importance of injecting advanced technologies into new designs/blocks by continuing to expand a highly collaborative environment ofapplied research in undersea vehicle technologies. To efficiently allocate resources and accelerate advances in undersea vehicle innovation and technology, well-focused high-impact appliedresearch projects will be conducted within the NIUVT framework. The undersea vehicle research will provide solutions and explore opportunities to accelerate innovation in the undersea research and development enterprise.
