2024 NESMA Support to URI

Abstract

Dr. James Miller, Professor of Ocean Engineering at the University of Rhode Island (URI) has requested the Woods Hole OceanographicInstitution#s (WHOI) Mooring Operations and Engineering Groups (MOE) expertise in deploying three Deep OBX Landers on the ONR NESMAProject. Each OBX sensor consists of a 3-axis geophone and a hydrophone. They will be used to measure the response of the seafloor to acoustic and seismic signals generated by wide band sources. It is vital that the OBX instruments be in contact with the seafloorand isolated from any vibration caused by the potentially swift currents on the seamount.
