Training Self-Knowledge to Improve Learning and Problem Solving
Abstract
The goal of this proposal is to explore the potential for using self-knowledge training to improve learning and problem-solving performance. Grounded at the intersection between the PIs expertise on the biological and experiential factors that drive individual differences in cognition and social learning theory, the proposed program of research explores two potential mechanisms: 1) using self-knowledge training to improve strategy selection, and by extension learning and problem solving; and 2) using self-knowledge training to improve self-efficacy, and by extension learning and problem solving. The development of a novel self-knowledge training paradigm is central to this program of research. Subsequently, the effects of various instantiations of self-knowledge training will be tested online and in person, using a variety of behavioral and neural indicators to measure changes in learning and problem-solving outcomes.
