Accelerating the Development of Advanced Manufacturing Technology & Talent in Puerto Rico Phase II
Abstract
LIFT seeks resources to further engage Puerto Rico#s Advanced Manufacturing Ecosystem and supporting the LIFT Puerto Rico (LIFT P.R.) program, which will have three primary objectives:1.LIFT and DOD Manufacturing Innovation Institute (MII) Cross Collaboration with the LIFT Puerto Rico Technology and Talent Ecosystems: The DoD MIIs seek to revitalize the U.S.#s domestic manufacturing capability through domestic public-private partnerships that enhance America#s strategic competitiveness while enabling the military of tomorrow. This is achieved through three primary activities hosted by the institutes:a.Advancing research and development (R&D) to promote American innovation while modernizing our military capabilities.b.Growing manufacturing ecosystems to enhance the Nation#s competitiveness.c.Furthering education and workforce development to train Americans of all ages and backgrounds for jobs of the future.Theability of the military to respond to an emergency depends on our Nation#s ability to produce needed parts and systems, healthy andsecure supply chains, and a skilled U.S. workforce.2.U.S. National Security: The outsourcing of U.S. manufacturing has left our nation vulnerable from many perspectives # critical goods, technological know-how, manufacturing infrastructure, etc. LIFT Puerto Rico will build upon the existing manufacturing foundation in Puerto Rico to close the gaps in our defense industrial base and manufacturing ecosystem.3.Puerto Rico Economic Development: Building upon a strong base, LIFT will continue to enhance Puerto Rico#s capacities in the aerospace, defense and medical device clusters and help expand its manufacturing capabilities into new sectors that will both enhance U.S. national security and increase Puerto Rico#s economic resiliency. LIFT has secured a strategic Public-Private-Partnership with Department of Economic Development and Commerce of Puerto Rico (DDEC) bringing the LIFT accelerator to Puerto Rico to advance innovative material production and manufacturing technologies by bridging applied research and product commercialization for materials, processes, and system applications. DDEC has positioned LIFT to be its lead partner, helping bridge the gap from research to commercialization for industry with an emphasis on advanced manufacturing, and education and workforce development. LIFT continues to execute its proven strategies in Puerto Rico to empower and accelerate the ideation, development and commercialization of new manufacturing processes, technologies, materials, and talent strengthening Puerto Rico#s industrial and defense manufacturing base. LIFT Puerto Rico is actively capturing the needs of the Puerto Rico region helping identify gaps in the current manufacturing that require solutions to secure industrial base.
