2024 Energetic Materials Gordon Research Conference and Gordon Research Seminar

Abstract

Approved for Public Release--Proposal AbstractThis is a proposal requesting support in the amount of $9,905.00 to be used to provide registration and/or travel support for key participants including, but not limited to, women, underrepresented groups, and early career scientists attending the 2024 Energetic Materials Gordon Research Conference. The 2024 Gordon Research Conference on Energetic Materials: "Understanding and Exploiting Structure, Property, and Novel Synthesis for Next Generation Energetic Materials" brings together a diverse group of established and early-career scientists from government laboratories, research universities, and private industry to discuss the state-of-the-art research on explosives, pyrotechnics, and propellants. This Gordon Conference will have a particular focus on highlighting the role of interfaces and how understanding and exploiting them can advance energetic materials. Themain topics of discussion include the following: bio-inspired synthesis andmaterials, flow chemistry for energetic materials, advances in experimental techniques and diagnostics, predictive modeling for behavior, response, and output, performance enhancement through controlling interfaces and exploiting design for multifunctional reactive materials, advanced propellants, and explosives. A special keynote session will highlight the Grand Challenges (past and present) and Opportunities for energetic materials, providing a unique perspective toward the future and provide insight to early-career scientists and the energetic materials community as a whole. All these areas are particularly relevant to the research objectives in energetic materials programs supported by ONR.The objectiveof the conference is to bring together leading scientists from the international community, as well as young researchers and students. This helps to build a network of scientists who can benefit from exposure to a wide range of subjects, all encompassed by this multi-disciplinary field. The discussion leaders and speakers for the conference have been chosen to cover many technical areas within energetic materials, and to include established leaders as well as emerging contributors to the field who have already demonstrated their excellence.
