BIP Summer Institute and Conference for Climate Change, Coastal Resilience, and Innovation: Building a STEM Workforce for Tomorrow s Grand Challenges in the Americas

Abstract

The Blue Integrated Partnerships (BIP), in its commitment to enhancing coastal resilience and addressing the multifaceted challenges of climate change, seeks the continued support and collaboration of the Office of Naval Research (ONR) for the summer of 2024 major activities. Building upon our collective achievements, BIP proposes to intensify our efforts through three key activities aimed atconfronting climate-related adversities: (i) the Summer Institute on Coastal Resilience, focused on equipping participants with theskills to address coastal and environmental challenges; (ii) the Symposium with the NAVY (TTX) in Puerto Rico, designed to foster dialogue and partnerships between the Navy, BIP, and Caribbean entities for identifying and solving specific environmental issues; and (iii) the Annual Conference of BIP, which consolidates learning and advancements from the year#s activities and sets the stage forfuture collaborative endeavors. This year#s program aligns seamlessly with ONR#s strategic objectives, particularly in nurturing a workforce adept in AI & Data Analytics, and Coastal Resilience. These areas have been carefully selected to meet the pressing needs for technological innovation and strategic responses to climate and coastal threats. By integrating AI and data analytics, we aim to provide deeper insights into climate phenomena, enhance coastal defense mechanisms, and develop sustainable solutions that uphold environmental and maritime security. The partnership between BIP and ONR signifies a mutual dedication to scientific excellence and theadvancement of a workforce capable of tackling pressing environmental challenges. Through continued support, this collaboration will not only foster a cycle of knowledge and innovation but also contribute significantly to regional security, maritime stability, and the establishment of new benchmarks for climate resilience. We believe that by reinforcing this partnership, we can accelerate thedevelopment of effective strategies and solutions that have far-reaching impacts on naval superiority and global environmental sustainability.Approved for public release.
