Novel oceanographic and ionospheric applications of high frequency radars in South East Asia: international training and collaborations

Abstract

It is proposed to capitalize on the sizable HF radar experience and infrastructure that we have established in the Pacific and in South East Asia, to (1) address novel applications of HF radars, (2) exploit passive reception of signals of opportunity, (3) build capacity and collaborate on publications by mentoring young faculty and training graduate students at various institutions in the Philippines, (4) maintain contacts with HF radar stakeholders and government agencies various South East Asia countries, (5) collaborate with the U.S. space weather community and help bridge know-how with the oceanographic radar community
