Expanding OETs STEM Program Through Museums and Science Centers

Abstract

The Expanding OET#s STEM Program Through Museums and Science Centers project will contribute to the development of the inaugural exhibit that will be part of a new series of traveling exhibits to be installed in informal learning venues across the U.S. in collaboration with ONR, NOAA, and the National Geographic Society. Led by Dr. Robert Ballard, this initiative seeks to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and explorers by showcasing his remarkable career and highlighting the significant contributions made by all collaborating partners to advancements in science, technology, maritime history, and cultural connections through ocean exploration. This proposal seeks funding for the first year, during which time the team will develop the inaugural exhibit, Mission Titanic. Mission Titanic will delve into the true story behind Dr. Ballard#s discovery of RMS Titanic and include the Navy#s critical role in the discovery. It is tentatively scheduled to premiere at a venue in North America in September 2025. This exhibit promises to captivate audiences with its immersive storytelling and cutting-edge design. Visitors will journey to the depths of the ocean through multimedia experiences to explore the remains of the iconic ship and learn about the technological innovations that made the discovery possible.
