D-ENTERPRISE - URI

Abstract

To support the equitable advancement of Underrepresented and Racially Minoritized (URM) students in ocean science and combat the sole focus on recruitment, the current proposal describes an innovative wrap-around initiative that foregrounds a much-needed emphasison retention. The Inclusion and Belonging in Ocean Science (IBOS) Collaborative is a robust, multi-tiered, mentorship program designed to support URM students success into and through ocean science. The IBOS Collaborative is the East Coast regional hub of the D-ENTERPRISE Initiative and consists of three universities: the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez (UPRM), University of MassachusettsBoston (UMass Boston), and University of Rhode Island (URI) in collaboration with the Puerto Rico Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP). Both UPRM and UMass Boston primarily serve a URM student population. UPRM is a Hispanic Serving Institution and UMass Boston is a Minority Serving Institution with specific designation as an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI).APPROVED FOR PUBLIC RELEASE
