Ocean Optics XXVI Conference - A/V Support
Abstract
From its inception in the early 1960s, the Ocean Optics Conference Series (https://oceanopticsconference.org) has attracted a diverse, international audience of scientists, management professionals, and students addressing virtually every facet of optical oceanography. For its sixty-plus year history, the event has increased in scope and attendance, gathering hundreds of Principal Investigators (including those supported by the U.S. Navy) and other scientific personnel working in the areas of ocean optics, ocean color remote sensing, and bio-optical modeling, as well as related disciplines. These experts in situ optical oceanography, satellite remote sensing of ocean biology and biogeochemistry share recent results and data, discuss ongoing work, refine approaches, and collaborateon ideas for future research and new frontiers in instrumentation and measurement techniques. The conference themes center on many aspects of the science, technology, and engineering that the Ocean Battlespace Sensing Department explores in the areas of oceanographic and meteorological observations, modeling and prediction different aspects of the battlespace environment that are subsurface and at the land/sea and air/sea interface; object detection, identification, and classification from the littoral to the open ocean and in many different optical water masses. This event focuses on a range of themes and research topics relevant to the Navy, particularly focusing on the use of novel sensors, platforms (from in situ to satellite) including key details of light in the ocean and its modification by environmental and biogeochemical parameters, and how to use that information for planning future operational needs in support of Navy objectives. This proposal requests funding to support the next edition of the Ocean Optics Conference taking place October 6-11, 2024, in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, Spain. Funds are requested to defray the costs of renting audio-visual equipment for the plenary presentation room as well as in four workshop and short course meeting rooms.
