Peridynamic Modeling of Deterioration in Organic Polymeric Coating Systems

Abstract

We propose a concise, physics-based numerical technique using peridynamic theory to assessthe degradation of organic polymeric coatings and predict their anticorrosion performance inharsh environments. Polymer coatings safeguard metal surfaces, yet the mechanismscausingcoating failure remain unclear. Our peridynamic-based tool simulates coating failure andsubstrate corrosion, enabling long-term anticorrosion performance prediction.
