Continuation of Research on Navigating the Complex Information Environment

Abstract

Graphika dba Octant Data#s research with the Office of Naval Research (ONR) has made significant progress toward better understanding and detecting cross-platform campaigns and doing so in a muchmore efficient way. Octant Data has successfully developed a cross-platform mapping capability integrating multiple social media data sources for real-world use cases. Our research, focused on co-citation network mapping, has been successful in generating analytic leads in an automated manner and effectively surfacing proto-narratives. This proposal outlines further research to be undertaken to fully understand the impact of cross-platform campaigns, evaluate counter-strategies, and study how information and communities form and evolve online. Furthermore, Octant proposes to extend our research in the area of proto-narratives to identify relationships between tactical sub-narratives and strategic narratives and improveour current proto-narrative generation pipeline with an adaptive algorithm that incorporates expert knowledge from our analysts to seek out more coherent, relevant, novel narrative candidates.
