Water Column Current and Biological Scattering Measurements

Abstract

Proposed is the fabrication of a system for water column current and biological scattering measurements. The system will consist ofa 4-beam ADCP (Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler) operating at 100 kHz with an additional center beam broadband echosounder for biological scattering measurements. In addition, a deep-water elliptical flotation buoy and an acoustic release are included for a seafloor mooring. The water column current and biological scattering measurements will add an important environmental sensing capabilityduring mid-frequency (0.5-10 kHz) acoustic data collection experiments and will facilitate modeling and interpretation of the acoustic data. This abstract is publicly releasable.
