UACE 2025 CONFERENCE

Abstract

The 8th Underwater Acoustics Conference & Exhibition (UACE2025) will be held in Porto Carras Grand Resort, in #alkidiki, Macedonia,Greece, from Sunday 15th to Friday 20th June, 2025 (Conference website www.uaconferences.org).The series of Conferences under the title #Underwater Acoustics Conference and Exhibition# (UACE) started in 2013 and was the fruit of the merge of the #European Conference on Underwater Acoustics# (ECUA) initiated by the European Commission in 1992 and the Underwater Acoustic Measurements: Technologies and Results# (UAM) initiated by Leif Bjørnø and John S. Papadakis in 2005. Former editions of the UACE were held in different locations in Greece, namely in Corfu (2013), Rhodes (2014), Chania (2015), Skiathos (2017), Hersonissos, Crete (2019), online due to the pandemic in 2021 and Kalamata (2023). Historic Chairmen of the UACE have been Lef Bjørnø and John Papadakis up to their deaths in 2015 and 2022.The Organizing Committee for the UACE2025 includes:Michael Taroudakis, University of Crete and FORTH, Greece (Chairman and PI)David Bradley, ARL, Penn State University, USA (Chairman)Philippe Blondel, University of Bath, UKMike Buckingham, MPL, Scripps, USARoss Chapman, University of Victoria, Canada (Co-Chairman)Nicholas Chotiros, University of Texas at AustinGeorge Haralabus,CTBTO, AustriaQihu Li, Institute of Acoustics, Acad. Sinica, ChinaAnthony Lyons, CCOM/JHC, University of New Hampshire, USAUACE hasbeen established as the leading international Conference on Underwater Acoustics. Traditionally, it provides a forum for exchange of the most recent research results, and application of underwater acoustic technologies, and the conference displayed the latest advances in instrumentation. The conference comprises a prominent series of structured and regular oral sessions with invited papers byleading international scientists. The Structured Sessions are organized by key persons actively engaged at the forefronts of research in underwater acoustics. In addition, recent research results are presented in contributed papers. Papers presented at the conference are published in proceedings which, like papers from the previous Underwater Acoustic Conferences, will be freely available on-line on the Conference Website and are indexed in Scopus. The UACE 2025 conference true to the UACE mission of adapting its content to new developments in the scientific area of underwater acoustics will focus on ocean observing systems and will introduce the use of Machine Learning in acoustic signal analysis. Both theoretical works on ocean observation using acoustics, and related technologies are invited. Thus, several sessions will be related to acoustic imaging, inverse problems, sea-bed acoustics, signal processing etc... As underwater noise is a very important issue with respect to the quality of the marine environment, sessions on man-made noise and its impact on marine biodiversity are encouraged. In addition, traditional sessions on underwater acoustic propagation modelling, underwater communication, sonar systems and seismoacoustics will help the conference participants to learn about novel achievements in practically all areas of underwater acoustics and related applications. The Conference hosts an exhibition on modern technology in underwater acoustics. Thus, researchers involved in sea experiments will have the chance to see new products and discuss with the exhibitors about their optimum exploitation in marine research. Finally, the Conference invests on new researchers and encourage their participation and presentation on their work by keeping their fees at a low level without any loss of conference facilities. Thus, their active participation in social activities allows them to communicate with senior researchers in relaxed conditions. Graduate students and new researchers have appreciated this offer and they constitute a great group of conference participants.
