FOURIER Methods for Resolving Echo Signals

Abstract

The proposal seeks to investigate advanced Fourier methods to detect and resolve complex timing characteristics (echo signals). Thee data analysis method will be a Python-based software package implementing a double fourier transform to be applied to Fermi LAT gamma ray photon timing data. The effort is important for timing analyses of Fermi and other satellite data by NRL scientists, as well as the broader scientific community, by providing a method to search for echo signals induced by gravitationally-lensed cosmic sources. The sources studied herein comprise an important class of astrophysical sources that probe strong gravity. The application of the timing analysis to detect echo emissions is a critical contribution to research efforts on this topic being pursued by NRL researchers.
