High Sensitivity Observations of Geostationary Satellites at High Spatial Resolution

Abstract

Consists of the research that is attempting breakthrough advancements in imaging at unprecedented level of resolution. The work consists of enhancement of the Navy Precision Optical Interferometer (NPOI) at the USNO located in Flagstaff, AZ. The proposed enhancement consists of two major thrusts: instrument development that will enhance the NPOI facility such that its capabilities will be up to the task of detecting the faint signals from geostationary and other high-altitude satellites and a 5 year plan of research and development that will develop the techniques necessary to take advantage of those enhanced capabilities.
