A disaggregated hardware and software architecture for programmable network infrastructure to support scalable, security, reliability and QoS

Abstract

This proposal is in response to the call for proposal under NSWC IHEODTD BAA N00174-17-0001, SPAWAR Systems Center Atlantic (SL-2), for Software Defined Infrastructure Research. We propose a distributed architecture namely “Cloud Patch” for the disaggregation of hardware and software to build programmable network infrastructure with scalable security, reliability and QoS. We leverage the evolving Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC) (standardized telecom architecture) for the deployment and management of Cloud Patch. Through the use of Network Function Virtualization (NFV) technologies, Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) and light weight containers are orchestrated to run on this distributed MEC based Cloud Patch platform.
