Embedded Sensors and Actuators for Structural Health Monitoring using Enhanced Materials in Additive Manufacturing

Abstract

3-D printing can provide alternatives to inspect integrity of aging structures at lower costs and increased locations, enables the development of sensors built in the field and for application/location with a reduction in lead time. This proposal seeks to develop knowledge insights towards the realization of adaptable SHM-focused sensors and actuators using 3-D printing. The project’s education component develops and nurtures students with technical skills of interest to the United States Navy.
