Robust Multi-Domain Situational Awareness through Sensor Fusion

Abstract

The challenges associated with operating an unmanned system in the air, on the surface or underwater are often unique to the mobility domain. However, each system has a common need to sense its environment through ranging and computer vision. This research investigates how to perform sensor fusion by leveraging a standard data representation or form of processing across these domains. Such standards can include the use of a point cloud representation for radar, LiDAR, and sonar data, and the use of machine learning techniques trained using multi-domain imagery.
