Building the Foundation for Navy Augmented Reality Supported Maintenance

Abstract

Maintenance workers face unique conditions while onboard Navy ships such as variable lighting and no GPS. This project lays the foundation in which AR drives the efficiency of MRO tasks to reduce costs, turnaround time, and errors. For the project, we will identify MRO technology requirements and develop customized algorithms and software to (1) track AR-headset locations and (2) automate identification and retrieval of MRO related objects (e.g., manuals). We will utilize AR device-powered vision, deep learning AI, and spatial mapping technologies to realize the research goal.
