Dielectric Breakdown in High Voltage Power Systems

Abstract

University of Texas at Arlington proposes to study the flashover dielectric strength of high voltage power systems of interest to the Navy’s EML team. UTA will perform a research study into how M-G sets are introduced and rectified theoretically and practically. Additionally, the intent of this multifaceted statement of work is to study alternative dielectric insulation materials that can be used throughout high voltage pulsed power systems. Multidisciplinary basic and applied research will be performed in the fields of electrical engineering (EE), materials science engineering (MSE), and mechanical engineering (ME), respectively, to study, model, fabricate, and experimentally evaluate new dielectric potting compounds, additives for inclusion in potted compounds, solid dielectrics, and 3D printed materials.
