New York Troops to Teachers Grant Award
Abstract
New York Troops to Teachers will support state as well as national efforts to recruit and place veterans in full-time teaching positions. While their focus will be on veterans residing in New York, they will also attempt to recruit veterans who will relocate to New York after separation. The NYC Department of Education as recipient will oversee the New York Troops to Teachers program and provide direction on alternative certification routes, preparation for certification achievement and appropriate job placements in the NYC school district. - Increase awareness of the Troops to Teachers program - Assess each veteran’s skill set in order to match with the appropriate grade, school and leadership style of the principal - Provide mentors - Prepare and train veterans in teacher preparation - Resolve challenges faced by veterans to become caring, qualified and competent teachers.
