Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision for HIV Prevention for the Ethiopian National Defence Force

Abstract

Jhpiego, a nonprofit affiliate of The Johns Hopkins University, is pleased to offer the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) a proposal for $852,000 over four years to provide support to the DOD’s Military Specific HIV/AIDS Prevention, Care and Treatment Program for PEPFAR Funded Countries. Jhpiego will strengthen the capacity of the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) to reduce the number of new HIV infections and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among ENDF members, their families and the civilian communities serviced by the ENDF. Activities will contribute to Ethiopia achieving the UNAIDS 90-90-90 goals by 2020 for HIV epidemic control by reaching a high-risk, priority population in the target age group of men aged 15–29 with voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) services. Achievement of the 90-90-90 goals will lead to improved population health outcomes.
