Expanding and accelerating the successes of the DHAPP Military Laboratory Quality Improvement (MLQI) Network

Abstract

Target: To expand an ongoing multi-year program to advance the standard of military laboratory services for the diagnosis and monitoring of HIV and other diseases. Countries served include Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, Sierra Leone, Togo, Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Republic of the Congo, Mali, and Niger. Goals: • Ensure inventory control, forecasting & procurement of lab reagents is complete, so services are uninterrupted • Ensure procurement of appropriate service maintenance contracts, calibration of equipment • Procurement of supplies, support, and equipment using government & other donor sources • Provide appropriate training of lab staff to support quality improvement and delivery of HIV/AIDS services • Ensure quality improvement of laboratories • Monitor lab quality and adherence to quality systems, method validation & provision of PT • Conduct routine visits to labs to assess achievements, evaluate activities and provide recommendations to develop work plans • Link military laboratory services to other resources at district, provincial and national levels • Create a virtual community for knowledge sharing • Provide a process and support for virtual video assessment of performance of rapid HIV testing
