Swept-Tip Blades for Mach-Scaled High-Speed Tiltrotor Tests

Abstract

The objective of this effort is to design, fabricate, characterize, and understand the fundamental aeromechanical behavior of highly twisted and swept composite tilt rotor blades. The blades will be fabricated in-house in the tiltrotor laboratory, and characterized for stiffness, inertial, and modal properties systematically through; mirror bending tests, sectional property tests, and rap tests for non-rotating frequencies. The overall focus of the research will be for lighter rotors and thinner wings to achieve an end goal of 400 knots flutter free cruise.
