NICOP - Underpinnings of Quantum Computing and Optimization of Battery Lifetimes

Abstract

Project Summary: The overall theme of the proposed research is the application of probabilistic and statistical methods to problems of interest to ONR: energy and quantum computing. Energy provides a short-to mid-term problem scenario whereas quantum computing is a long-term problem. Both are linked by the opportunity for game-changing results if the proposed research is successful. With regards to energy, the focus is on battery design and battery maintenance to enhance battery life. Batteries as energy storage vehicles are destined to play a signal role in energy distribution and management. With regards to computing, the focus is on resolving some paradoxes in quantum theory with the hope that the clarity this spawns will pave the path towards quantum computing.
