CSP - THE 5TH INTERNATIONAL ON SMART MATERIALS AND NANOTECHNOLOGY IN ENGINEERING

Abstract

a. This conference, SMN2015, is co-organized by Canadian and Chinese research communities. It covers broad basic research fields such as intelligent materials and structures, sensor and actuator development, nanotechnologies, signal processing, damage identification and diagnostics, and structural integrity characterization and assessment methodologies. The Conference will bring together the global community of smart materials and nanotechnologies with experts from industry, academia, and government. It aims to develop structural health monitoring (SHM) application areas such as energy, civil engineering, aerospace, transportation, automotive, and industrial automation. The conference setting is well-suited for presentations/discussions that address key and emerging S&T issues which are critical and unique in SHM. More than 250 participants from around the world are expected to attend SMN 2015. Papers in the conference proceedings are expected to reflect current state-of-the-art technologies and S&T activities around the world. b. Smart materials and nanotechnologies are well suited to support variety of naval applications. Here are some examples in SMN2015 technical sessions: 1) Smart Skin, which are wearable clothing made of special tactile material that can detect a variety of signals from the human body, 2) Autonomous Smart systems, which can be equipped with sensors, actuators and sophisticated controls to improve surveillance, target identification and battlefield awareness. In general, this multidisciplinary field of S&T can impact technology developments in autonomy, power and energy, platform design and survivability, and warfighter protection.
