CSP - PHOTONICS MIDDLE EAST CONFERENCE 2015
Abstract
The CSP grantee is MASDAR Institute in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The PI has previously received an EOARD/ONRG co-funded research grant. Prof. Dimas is well-known both in her scientific area as well as in the region. The event itself will be held in Doha, Qatar, at the Texas A&M University - Qatar campus, building upon regional partnerships and maximizing MENA regional collaborations for the benefit of the scientific domain. Due to the international nature of the meeting, it is both scientifically relevant for Navy/Gov and also provides ONRG with an excellent opportunity for regional GTA.www.photonics-me.org/ In terms of Navy Strategic areas, Electromagnetic Maneuver Warfare encompasses the application of the topics the workshop will be covering. Spectral dominance refers to fully taking advantage of the electromagnetic spectrum ~ light. Next generation ~electronics~ such as for computers, data centers, high performing computers, communication systems are gravitating toward photonic based communication and interconnects as well as photonic to electronic communication. Pushing the speeds of these components requires developing further photonic materials, non-linear physics, solitons, plasmonics and improved fiber to chip packaging. Photonic sensors and actuators offer a high speed, electromagnetic interference free, continuous and high accuracy solution for monitoring and response techniques. Such microsystems require the development of photonic materials, scalable manufacturing, optoeletronic devices, fiber transducers, display technology (i.e liquid crystal), and plasmonic devices. Examining the core of high speed photonics (i.e. non linear physics), provides a potential for next generation disruptive technology such as for quantum measurement platforms and multifunctional microsystems such as flexible photonic sensors. PMEC therefore will prove to cover fundamental advancements in the core of the Navy~s Electromagnetic maneuver warfare technology.
