Workshop on Marine Sensors and Manipulators

Abstract

The Workshop of Marine Sensors and Manipulators (WMSM) is a unique forum that includes invited speakers, hands on tutorials, demonstrations, and refereed paper presentations. The event will be held 11-13 FEB in Las Palmas, Canary Island, Spain in conjunction with the EUROCAST biannual conference. Holding this workshop in conjunction with EUROCAST will increase participation and reduce the overall costs of this workshop. It will also facilitate increased participation in WMSM to co-locate the related events. The goal of the WMSM workshop is to bring together sensor developers and researchers in marine robotics with particular emphasis this year on payload sensors for autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs), autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), gliders, remotely operated vehicles, and other platforms of interest to the US Naval Research Enterprise (NRE). Several of the demonstrations aim to illustrate multi-platform collaboration and cooperation relevant to interoperability which is of great concern to the NRE. Several key US NRE POCs have confirmed that that plan to attend this workshop including representatives from ONR, NRL, SPAWAR Pacific, Stanford University, DARPA, NATO CMRE, and University of Rhode Island. This is a sound multi-national event with at least eight nations planning to participate..
