Chemical and Structural Transformations in Materials under Mechanical Load Workshop
Abstract
to help fund a computational materials science workshop. The majority of the funds for the workshop are being provided by EU funding agencies and the agenda is focused on cutting edge topics with an emphasis on how to try to solve some of the current roadblocks in the field. The workshop is scheduled in a Gordan Conference fashion with blocks of time for both group discussion and informal conversations. There are two DoD SME s, on from NRL and one from AFRL, scheduled to participate so any breakthroughs or new ideas will immediately and directly feed back into NRE and DoD R&D. This is an exciting area which is ripe for this type of meeting. The odds of something dramatically new being initiated here are rather high. Sponsoring the workshop is both a great way to advance the basic science and also put ONRG out front as a funding agency to talk with regarding research that would advance the SOA.
