Real-time monitoring of Indonesian Throughflow (ITF) in Lombok Strait by coastal acoustic tomography (CAT

Abstract

Project will measure the mean transport and variability of Lombok Strait throughflow using acoustic methods. The region is a critical flux point for the thermohaline circulation of the world ocean and will build partnerships with Indonesian researchers via Japanese, Chinese and Taiwanese researchers. This is innovative as it will validate the accuracy of real-time data in comparison with the upward-looking moored ADCP data and the CTD data obtained in the same experiment, which combined with the geographic location and national researchers involved is of keen interest to Code 32 (Dr Bob Headrick and Scott Harper
