NICOP - Understanding Current State and Future Trends in Global Science and Technology Cooperation: Europe-China & US-China
Abstract
The proposed research project is innovative through its focus on developing an understanding of the nature, dynamics, priorities, and trends in STI cooperation and collaboration that China has with the European Union (EU) and the United States (US). Through analyzing the EU- China and US-China S&T cooperation as well as the initiatives put in place to foster and promote such cooperation, the ONRG and US DoD in general will be better positioned to apply the findings to their benefit in building on established cooperation and creating more effective cooperation with the EU and China. This proactive research approach is important for the development of a better resourced and best-value international engagement strategy. The results of a research exercise will feed into a Forum that is a multi-level event, which will complement the high level strategic views of decision and policy-makers with the specific feedback and practical experience of researchers and private sector stakeholders developing collaborative work in specific S&T areas that have been considered of strategic interest to the ONR. The main tangible outputs of the project will include an EU-China S&T Cooperation report and Forum proceedings that will be shared with all stakeholders deemed relevant by the ONR.
