NICOP - Use of Nano-Particles for Future Energy
Abstract
Statement of Work (SOW)??? -The main objective of this project is to enhance the performance of current energy devices such as: solar cells, photonics devices and memory cells using different nanoparticles. The nanoparticles are expected to increase the efficiency of the solar cells and their generated current, in addition, the introduction of the nanoparticles in current non-volatile memory devices is expected to lower their operating voltage and enhance their performance characteristics such as: retention and endurance characteristics.??? -First of all, after doing intensive literature review, the fabrication process for the proposed devices will be designed. Then, different nanoparticles of different sizes will be fabricated and characterized. Then, reference devices in addition to devices with embedded nanoparticles will be fabricated. Next, the fabricated devices will be characterized using different imaging tools such as SEM, TEM, AFM, solar simulator, semiconductor device analyzer, etc. Finally, the performance of the different devices will be compared, and an understanding of the effect of the nanoparticle size and electronic properties on the device performance will be established.??? -The primary principal Investigator Prof. Ammar Nayfeh is responsible for the execution of all the tasks. Prof. Ala???aldeen Al-Halhouli is responsible for task number 3 (shown below) where he is going to fabricate and provide us with different nanoparticles.
