CSP - 2016 BIOINTERFACE SCIENCE GORDON RESEARCH CONFERENCE & SEMINAR
Abstract
Biointerface Science - defined as the study and control of biomolecular interactions at interfaces ~ is an emerging research frontier at the interface of biological, chemical, and physical science and engineering. From biosensing, biofouling, and implant biocompatibility, to biomaterials synthesis and synthetic biology, a diverse range of traditional and emerging disciplines converge on the central importance of Biointerface Science. Relevance:Biointerface science is multidisciplinary and applies to multiple Naval S&T Focus Areas, including Power and Energy, Warfighter Performance, Platform Design and Survivability, and Total Ownership Cost (amongst others, likely). Coordination:ARO is also funding from DoD. Dr. Linda Chrisey (Code 34 ONR) will also be in the loop as this falls under ONR s synthetic biology and bio portfolio areas. Dr. Tim Bentley ONR34 will be in the loop via help from Liming Salvino (AD) Outcome:Mission essential awareness of the biointerface community of research. Potential topics for future NICOPs will be identified and side meetings coordinated with top researchers in biointerface science community. This will help prepare further for incoming synbio AD.
