VSP - Travel Support to Perform Collaborative Research at NRL Electronics Division

Abstract

Travel Support to Perform Collaborative Research at NRL Electronics DivisionDr. Jihyun Kim plans to visit the Naval Research Laboratory to perform collaborative research on a novel wide bandgap material, namely gallium oxide. NRL s Electronics Division (Code 6800) is studying the material for power electronics applications due to the 4.8 eV wide bandgap, the associated high breakdown strength, and thermal stability. Gallium oxide is also a good candidate for applications in harsh conditions such as high temperature sensors and solar-blind photodetectors. Dr. Kim will investigate the fabrication technique to obtain two-dimensional beta-Ga2O3 and characterize the optical properties using the instrumentation at NRL. Between 2004 and 2006, Dr. Kim was a post-doc at NRL 6800 performing research on electronic materials. He has maintained professional connection with NRL since his return to Korea in 2006. This two-week visit will further strengthen the collaborative relationship. This VSP is coordinated with Dr. Jaime Freitas of NRL Code 6877.
