NICOP - Single-Element Passive Time Reversal Mirror in Shallow Water Acoustics

Abstract

a. The proposed research is intended to establish a scientific foundation for design and implementation of a new, low-cost and environmentally friendly system for long-term ocean observation.b. Passive methods of detection are environmentally friendly, obviating environmental studies and permits. Since nothing is transmitted, the method is stealthy, and may find many applications that require covertness.c. This project is coordinated with research at University of Colorado at Boulder, which will support two Ph. D. students. Research team of University of Haifa brings some of the necessary computer techniques.d. The foundations upon which to develop the ability to passively detected underwater objects and phenomena that were previously detected with active systems.
