CSP - Modelling and Simulation for Autonomous Systems Workshop 2016

Abstract

Modelling and Simulation for Autonomous Systems Workshop 2016The Modelling and Simulation Centre of Excellence (M&S CoE) is hosting the third Modeling and Simulation for Autonomous Systems Workshop (MESAS) in Rome, Italy. This two day workshop will explore the use of modelling and simulation (M&S) to efficiently integration autonomous systems (AxS) into the operational field. The event will gather military, academic, and industry experts from many nations. M&S plays a key role to enable efficient use of autonomous systems, both in terms of improving AxS functionality and in terms of optimizing operator performance as a pivotal part of an AxS. Additional concepts that will be explored at this workshop including use of M&S to improve Concept Development & Experimentation (CD&E), Education and Training, Distributed Simulation and Interoperability. These topics will be approached from a coalition perspective, thus stressing interoperability needs in terms of autonomous and unmanned systems cooperation in multi service and/or multinational operations. Relevant S&T Focus areas: Assure Access to Maritime Battlespace, Autonomy and Unmanned System, and Information Dominance. ONR Science of Autonomy lead is interested in this event. Other NRE that will attend include Mr. Stuart A. Whitehead, Deputy Director SES for Command and Control Integration (DD C2I) within Directorate for Command, Control, Communications and Computers, US Joint Staff, J6, is supporting MESAS. The cooperation between NATO M&S COE and US Joint Staff J6 is focused on Information Exchange requirements between heterogeneous Autonomous and Unmanned Systems in Multinational and Coalition Environment. MESAS~16 will result in a publication of papers to disseminate workshop discussions and results. A second outcome is to create a virtual Community of Interest; this will facilitate communication amongst M&S experts and related fields.
