NICOP - Network Long BaseLine

Abstract

Network Long BaseLine:a. A novel approach to enhance AUV navigation through the addition of localization services to networked acoustic communications. Traditional approaches require the AUVs to query one or more modems/transponders. This project proposes a more generic approach, where localization data is embedded in regular communication traffic.b. Network-enabled localization will be an enabler of collaborative anti-submarine autonomous sensor networks. Sensors with a better knowledge of their position can ultimately increase theirperformance. c. This project is coordinated with Dr. Vladimir Djapic, SSC-PAC, funded by Kelly Cooper, ONR code 33.d. Desired outcome will be the capability to: 1 Enlarge unmanned vehicles operational areas 2 Allow cheaper vehicles to exploit deployed infrastructures.
