CSP - Applied Interdisciplinary and disruptive technologies for LatinAmerica. This is a workshop that integrates disciplines such as sytnhetic biology to solve problemas in latin america

Abstract

Applied Interdisciplinary and disruptive technologies for LatinAmerica. This proposal is for a workshop designed to bring together researchers in Latin America (from Mexico to the Southern Cone) working on disruptive science and technology problems/solutions for with both researchers in and consequences for Latin America. The first workshop in the series is on the topic of synthetic biology, and is analogous to MIT s iGEM competition. Teams from Mexico, Colombia, Brazil and Argentina will use the methodologies of synthetic biology to on a number of projects of interest to the Naval Research Establishment, including a self-assembling multipurpose biotechnological scaffold, sensors for the detection of landmines, an antifouling coating, and an organism for the bioremediation of heavy metals. This is an excellent opportunity to further the progress of this novel and relevant S&T as well as to discover the state of the art within Latin America.
