CSP - Underwater Robotics Researcher s Workshop at Underwater Robot Convention 2016

Abstract

Underwater Robotics Researcher~##s Workshop at Underwater Robot Convention 2016a. Technical~ This workshop gathers most of the major players of the Japanese underwater robot research community for a unique, hands-on discussion of the latest technologies. The Japanese underwater robotics community has been energized by the recent Japanese Government~s funding initiative. As such, the researchers are actively innovating especially for the applications of underwater search & recovery and seafloor resources exploration.b. Relevance~ Supporting this workshop will benefit the ONR and DoN by: (i) providing a GTA opportunity to ONRG ADs to observe the Japanese underwater robotics community discussing their latest work in an open forum; and (ii) allowing the Japanese underwater robotics community to learn about the potential synergy at ONR/DoN they may be able to take advantage of. In particular, this year s workshop will include the design disclosure on their public website to foster continued interactions and innovations by the participating community members as well as those who were not able to attend. c. HQ Coordination~ None at this time d. Desired Outcome~ Better US-JPN synergy for the underwater robotics research; and better GTA of the state of Japanese underwater robotics research.
