CSP - 15th IEEE International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality (ISMAR2016)

Abstract

TECHNICAL: The IEEE International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality (ISMAR) is a premiere international conference for virtual, augmented, and mixed reality. This kind of technology has received funding by ONR and the DoD for over a decade. As products such as the Microsoft HoloLens and Oculus Rift bring exciting advancements in the consumer space, it is critical that ONR maintain awareness of the state-of-the-art in the field and see how these developments can be leveraged to solve defense S&T issues. RELEVANCE: The fleet~s training requirements are increasing every year, and virtual, mixed, and augmented reality has the potential to improve training quality and quantity. Additionally, there is a new push within operational forces to utilize this technology (e.g., augmented battlefields for improved Close Air Support). ONR/NRE/DOD COORDINATION: Dr. Peter Squire (ONR30) has expressed interest in attending the conference. Several of his PIs will be in attendance. OUTCOME: Materials from the workshop including agendas, programs, and proceedings.
