CSP - 6th IEEE RAS & EMBS International Conference on Biomedical Robotics and Biomechatronics
Abstract
6th IEEE RAS & EMBS International Conference on Biomedical Robotics and Biomechatronicsa. The sixth IEEE RAS/EMBS International Conference on Biomedical Robotics and Biomechatronics (BioRob 2016) is a joint effort of the two IEEE Societies of Robotics and Automation (RAS) and Engineering in Medicine and Biology (EMBS). BioRob covers both theoretical and experimental challenges posed by the application of robotics and mechatronics in medicine and biology. The primary focus of Biorobotics is to analyze biological systems from a "biomechatronic" point of view, trying to understand the scientific and engineering principles underlying their extraordinary performance. This profound understanding of how biological systems work, behave, and interact can be used for two main objectives: (1) to guide the design and fabrication of novel, high performance bio-inspired machines and systems for many different applications; and (2) to develop novel nano-, micro-, and macro- devices that can be used in disease prevention, diagnosis, surgery, prosthetics, rehabilitation, and personal assistance. b. Robotics in biomedical research, which is the main focus of this conference, directly supports Warfighter performance and Assure Access to the Maritime Battlespace focus areas. In general, robotics and its many underlying fundamental research topics, such as machine intelligence, automation and control systems, nanotechnologies, sensors, data fusion, computer vision, and signal processing, are extremely important S&T topics for DON and ONR, as outlined in Naval S&T Strategy. c. The organizers of this conference are researchers from SINAPSE, NUS. They are also PIs for ONR/ONRG NICOPs. ONR Code32 will co-fund this conference and arrange NICOP program reviews and mid-year technology demos during the conference. Many conference attendees, including invited speakers, are also ONR Code32 and 34 PIs and/or research collaborators on related projects. d. In addition to conference materials and reports, this conference will provide benefits for 3 SINAPSE~s NICOPs through discussions and exchanges of ideas in focused technical sessions with top researchers around the world.
