NICOP - Behavior and sensitivity of phase arrival times in the Fram-Strait area

Abstract

Behavior and sensitivity of phase arrival times in the Fram-Strait area: The proposed work will focus on the behavior and sensitivity of phase arrivals in Fram Strait propagation conditions, characterized by limited temporal spread. In the framework of recent ONR-supported research, the behavior of phase arrivals and phase arrival times has been studied as a way to increase resolution in the time domain. Recent results have shown that phase arrivals can be useful in cases where peak arrival resolution is lost and thus phase arrival times can be used as anenhancement to peak arrival time observablesb. The aim is to reach conclusions on the applicability of phase arrival times as observables, either complementary to or independent of peak arrivals, depending on propagation conditions and signal characteristics and provide tools for their exploitation.c. Code 322 reviewed the proposal and provided the funding.d. A report describing the utility of phase arrivals.
