Abstract
Flinders Island Isolated Power System Connect 2016 Conference.a. The International Isolated Power System Connect Workshop seeks to become the premier remote area power systems workshop in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia, for theexchange of research, new technology and training. This workshop provides a forum for academics, industry researchers and experts in power engineering to discuss and share ideas,present results, reflect on past experiences and discuss future projects. b. The Navy~s energy strategy is centered on energy security, energy efficiency and sustainability while remaining the pre-eminent maritime power. The strategy acknowledgesthat petroleum reliance degrades the strategic position of the country and the tactical performance of US forces. The DON goals target a half of total energy consumption to comefrom renewable sources by 2020. In addition to ~Increase Alternative Energy Ashore~: By2020, DON will produce at least 50% of shore-based energy requirements from alternativesources; 50% of DON installations will be net-zero. c. Code 33 d. Provide a utility specific forum to identify and discuss both current and emerging technology issues relevant to the security of hybrid diesel power systems.Provide a forum, specifically targeting Pacific utility involvement, leading to cooperative research collaboration, inclusive of any support available via the Naval Research Enterprise (NRE).Link the event to the concurrent isolated power system developers forum (IPSDF), leveraging attendance from Australian utilities. The 2016 IPSDF will be held on Flinders Island, directly preceding IPS connect 2016.Provide a dual professional development/conference format to further incentivize Pacific stakeholder involvement.Maintaining long-term inter-regional relationships between utilities and research organizations, as demonstrated during prior IPS events.
