CSP - Asian Congress of Gas Turbines (ACGT-2016)
Abstract
The Asian Congress of Gas Turbines (ACGT), is a biennial conference with gas turbines as the main theme. This conference was held at one of the three countries, Japan, Korea and China. The previous conferences were held in 2005 (Seoul), 2009 (Tokyo), 2012 (Shanghai) and 2014 (Seoul). India is a new entry to this group and the International Organizing Committee (IOC) of ACGT, has requested that the next conference be held at IIT Bombay during 14-16th November, 2016. The main aim of this conference is to enable a forum where the gas turbine enthusiasts primarily from the Asian region and especially the young professionals and students can present their work and discuss with their peers. It is hoped that with support from Organizations such as ONR, the registration fee for students and young professionals can be kept reasonable so as to encourage their participation in large numbers. ACGT 2016 will aim to provide an international forum for exchange of information related to gas turbine research, especially among researchers in Asia and the Pacific Rim Region. One of the objectives is to enhance interaction and cooperation among Asian researchers, especially students. It is hoped that ACGT 2016 will lead to promotion of pan-Asian cooperative effort in gas turbine research. Papers dealing with all aspects of gas turbine research are welcome, especially in the areas of • Aerodynamics of gas turbine components; Combustion; Development and Testing of Gas Turbine Systems; Diagnostics, Control, and Measurement; Heat Transfer; Materials; Performance Analysis and Advanced Cycles; Operational Experience of Gas Turbines; Structures & Dynamics; Turbomachinery; Rotor dynamics The ACGT 2016 will have two Forums (Panel Discussions) in addition to general sessions. The topics will deal with strategic issues related to gas turbines which are emerging in Asia • Forum 1 - Energy Strategies of Korea, Japan, and China and India • Forum 2 - The role of Gas Turbines in Distributed Generation and for International Cooperation. There will be two Invited talks from internationally recognized experts. Two of the proposed invited speakers are: 1. Prof. Reza Abhari, Professor of Aerothermodynamics at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich). 2. Prof. Nicholas Cumpsty, Emeritus Professor, Imperial College, London, U.K. Since the focus of the conference is gas turbines, there is a significant amount of technical topics covered in the conference of interest to the US Navy. Many of the specific topics listed above addresses some of the challenges in gas turbine technology pertaining to Naval applications. There has been a substantial focus on gas turbine technology development in the Asia region, especially in China and India. It is expected that the gas turbine research community from the Asia region and elsewhere will find this conference an opportunity to present their work among peers. The conference provides an excellent opportunity for networking among the researchers from the Academia, Industry, Research Labs and the Government Policy makers. The technical papers presented in the conference will be published in the form of proceedings of the conference. The organizers also plan to approach a few reputed journals in the area of gas turbines to explore the possibility of publishing selected papers (after a thorough peer review) in a special issue.
